British hip-hop has been getting bigger yearly. Swey gained success when he first started in 2004, Chipmunk gained commercial success in 2009, and he was 19, and now, a new British rapper is bringing his game, his name is Tinie Tempah, who made some successful mixtapes and now he sounds like he really means business in his debut album “Disc-Overy”.

The difference between Tinie and other British rappers, or any other rappers worldwide is that he can easily can diversify to many different styles, he does that exactly on the “Disc-overy” album and to be honest, I loved that in the album, because there are so many artists sounding the same, or trying to sound the same right now and to have someone make an album that can easily diversify in its content, I think it’s a very good thing, and one of the many things hip-hop has been missing for a while.

Tinie goes through many styles in this album. He made a large amount of party themed tracks on the album, and something unusual about them was that they did not sound overused, pop-ish or even repetitive. “Frisky” had a really catchy hook, and strongly delivered verses. “Pass Out” had one of my favorite beats on the album, and generally a very strong flow. “Till I’m Gone” was very strong, it was energy filled, and it had a really sick flow, and “Miami 2 Ibiza” had a very dance influenced beat, and creatively crafted lyrics, especially on its second verse.

There were some love songs on the album, but I’m not talking about the corny love songs that are on the radio most of the time, that are just like ‘boy I love you’ or vise versa.  The love songs in this album actually had some emotion and more importantly meaning in them, which is in my opinion, is the main element in making a love song, and Tinie displayed that perfectly in songs like “Invincible”, “Snap”, and “Love Suicide”.

There were also some motivational tracks in the album as well. The most notable was the album’s best song “Written in the Stars” which was a song that felt very relatable, and it also featured my favorite line on the album, which was “everyone’s a kid no one cares about, you just gotta keep screaming till they hear you out”. Another great motivational track was “Obsession” which talks about doing whatever you can to reach that top, but then at some point trying to avoid being obsessed to fame and all the attention that comes with it.

There were also some very self-centered and cocky tracks on the album. They were mostly all hits, but there were a few misses. “Wonderman” was one of the best on the album, thanks to its great beat, hook, and verses. “Just a Little” was the worst song on the album, it was good, but the lyrics where too self-centered, and the hook was a bit too weak, and “Let’s Go” was good, but not as good as the rest of the album, it had a weaker hook in a way.

While not suffering from any major errors, only very minor issues. Disc-Overy was easily one of my favorite British hip-hop albums to come out, it was very clearly diverse, but it still stayed hip-hop, plus the lyrics in the album where really good when it comes to flow, as well as meaning. Overall, this looks like it would be one of the best albums of 2011, and an album that everyone should have in there I pods.
